Care & Ownership

A reborn doll is a work of art. With the right care, it can last for decades. Here's how to keep yours looking its best.

Handling Your Doll

  • Always support the head when picking up or moving the doll.
  • Avoid bending limbs beyond their natural range of motion.
  • Keep silicone dolls away from sharp objects that could puncture the surface.
  • Wash your hands before handling to avoid transferring oils and dirt.

Cleaning

Vinyl Dolls

  • Wipe with a damp, soft cloth
  • Use mild baby soap for deeper cleaning
  • Avoid scrubbing painted areas
  • Pat dry, never rub
  • Keep away from harsh chemicals

Silicone Dolls

  • Clean with mild soap and warm water
  • Use a soft brush for textured skin detail
  • Avoid silicone-based products (causes breakdown)
  • Apply cornstarch lightly to restore a matte finish
  • Air dry completely before storing

Hair Care

Rooted mohair and micro-rooted hair requires gentle care to maintain its softness and appearance.

  • Dampen hair lightly with water and use a wide-tooth comb or soft baby brush.
  • Avoid pulling or tugging, especially at the root line.
  • If the hair becomes dry, a tiny amount of baby conditioner diluted in water can help.
  • Never use heat tools on rooted hair.

Storage & Display

Keep your doll away from direct sunlight, which can fade paint and discolor vinyl over time. Store in a cool, dry place. If displaying long-term, a doll stand or padded display case protects the body and maintains posing. Avoid storing in plastic bags, which can trap moisture and cause mildew on cloth bodies.

Clothing & Accessories

Real newborn clothing (0-3 month size) typically fits most reborn dolls. Avoid dark or strongly dyed fabrics that may transfer color to the vinyl or silicone surface. Remove clothing if storing the doll for extended periods to prevent staining.

When Something Goes Wrong

Minor scuffs on vinyl can sometimes be buffed out gently with a Magic Eraser (test in a hidden area first). For significant paint damage or repairs, reach out to a professional reborn restorer rather than attempting a fix yourself. Many artists also offer touch-up services.
